SSAT Prep (& other tests)
North Toronto Tutoring provides expert coaching to help students prepare to write standardized tests, such as the SSAT, ISSE, SAT, GED, and proprietary private school entrance exams.
Most other test preparation offerings are standard programs geared towards large group instruction. NTT’s program is more effective because we personalize the preparation program to the needs of the individual student by first assessing the student’s strengths and weaknesses and then focusing on these areas of greatest need.
North Toronto Tutoring carries a vast selection of educational tools and resources which teachers use for test preparation. Students are trained and drilled in test-taking procedures, how to formulate ‘educated guesses’ when they are unsure of answers, when and when not to ‘guess’ an answer, and how to pace themselves to adhere to strict timelines for both test preparation and actual test taking.
Practice tests are administered mid-point throughout the program to track progress and ensure that strategies employed are producing maximum results. In addition, constant feedback is provided to both students and/or parents about progression through the program and what steps need to be taken outside of scheduled sessions in order to achieve higher scores.

Reading Readiness (JK-Gr.1)
The most critical learning period for developing reading skills occurs in the first two to three years of a child’s formal education. At North Toronto Tutoring, children learn how writing is related to the spoken word through the usage of phonics and phonemic awareness. Reading, writing, printing, and letter sounds are taught and practiced, and students learn sentence formulation through word-by-word analysis and sight reading drills.
Students learn and perfect their reading skills by utilizing various strategies such as picture and context clues, pattern recognition and prediction strategies. Teachers use innovative and engaging strategies to create a fun, safe and effective learning environment for your child to conquer any reading obstacles. Most of all, we help your little one learn to love reading, and develop the confidence necessary to realize his or her academic potential.

Core Skills Booster (Gr. 1-8)
Our booster program is for students of all ages. This program is most popular with elementary school students who are struggling in a certain area and are potentially lacking a strong foundation in that subject. Typically students who benefit most from this program are between grades one through eight and who have struggled in the previous grade.
This program addresses skills that have been missed in the past to build a strong foundation. The areas of strength and weakness can be best identified through our academic assessment but as an alternative for parents we also offer the option of not having the child assessed which we then will begin the student working below grade level to boost confidence before tackling more challenging concepts.
For students who are excelling in their current subject areas and are ready for enrichment, this is a great program to get ahead in their learning and prepare for concepts that haven’t yet been taught in their classroom.
Depending on the goals of the program we can support your child through current material that is being taught in class at their grade level or prepare your child for the concepts in the curriculum that will be taught in the next grade.
